10/3/2008 Good moments: my last trip to TürkeyIt was the best moment that i lived in this year . I leart so many things. I'm glad to have had this opportunity in my life.
I made real friends such as: Burcu, Tulin and Ahmet Be.

In the 18th century, the Portuguese who was the settlers of Brazil used to have a feast to mark the beginning of the Quaresma. Quaresma is the period of fourty days which starts on the Ash's Wednesday and goes to the Easter's Sunday. The Catholics are use to follow some penitencies during the Lent as a kind of pre-tension-reliever. One of the most common penitencies during Lent is to avoid the consumption of meat.
Maybe you are asking to yourself: what's the connection between this with the Carnival feast? The carnival word comes from "carnevale" in ancient Italian which means exactly this: to stay away from meat. In modern Portuguese language the word's radical "carne" means meat in English. Therefore, this would be the origin of the word carnaval. The Carnival feast was very popular among poor people and the noblesse as well. It was the a rare moment which they could break free from their obligations and throw small espheres of wax which contain parfumed water, against their peers. This feast is called Entrudo. It was brought to Salvador when the Royal Family was forced to move in to Brazil. The native started to use rotten eggs and dirty water instead of parfumed water because it was very expensive for that time. Consequently, it became a real mess. Therefore, the Entrudos were prohibited and this feast was replaced to Carnaval period. It was in the same period as the party which used to occur in Nice and Veneza. Also, it was at the same epoch as the entrudo's feast. The European Carnival people used to wear fantasies. And the peak of this party was when people paraded around the streets singing, dancing and joking. As Brazilian people are very creativity they mixed up the Entrudo with European Carnaval. So, they created a celebration with fantasies, dance, parades and, above all, the sense that the laws were temporarily laxed and everyone is allowed to have fun. My dear friends, I was so unpleased to know that the Pope Benedict XVI has offended the Muslim Community with his last declaration about the "holy war ". I do not agree with the way that he treated this theme. His articulation against the religious motivation of violence was a completely disastrous. I was horrified for that!! And I’m so sorry for this too. I would like to let clear that his thoughts are not my thoughts. I strong respect my Muslim Friends and all Muslim Community as well, because above all we are all human being in essence. Therefore we must respect people’s actions and decisions without judging each others. Also, I understand the reasons for why you are fighting; even though being against any kind of violence.
